Great Links for Students or other Learners

I’m a sucker for learning tools. I subscribe to great sites like makeuseof.com and lifehacker.com which hook you up with useful sites from all over the web.

Here are a few of my favs:

Books
Bookfinder.com compare prices on over 150 million books for sale including new, used, rare, out of print and international textbooks.
Buy.com, Half.com, and also have a collection of cheap books.
Chegg is an interesting site that allows you to RENT text books.

Hate writing bibliographies?
Stuck in info-hell? You’ll love Bibme and ottobib.com/ these sites will write bibliographies for you.

Cheat sheet?
Remember Cliffnotes and Spark Notes? Here is a better version with more detail, called Pink Monkey.

Want to be up-to-date on issues in your field?
Check out free lectures from MIT, Harvard and other schools on lecturefox.com/. iTunes U has a comprehensive list of lectures here

Create your own flashcards
Use them online, download them, and print them for free. See flashcardexchange.com/.

Out of notebook paper?
Need graph paper? This site has over 400 downloadable papers you can print.

Basic Skills
As obvious as you might think it is..some people don’t understand the concept of being a student. A professor at California Polytechnic wrote a simple, but helpful guide on How to be a Student.

Can’t keep up with your to do list?
You can coordinate this tool with your iphone or use it simply online. Here are some great online calendars.. 30boxes.com, calendarhub.com, and hipcal.com.

Want to take better notes?
Evernote will help you organize your notes and even make them searchable and organizable. You can conveniently use it on multiple platforms. Other great sites: mynoteit.com, shorttext.com/, jotcloud.com, mystickies.com, notecentric.com, yourdraft.com, notemesh.com, and backpackit.com. Highlight documents online with wizlite.com/.

Mindmapping
Now you have your notes, you need to put them together. Check out these great flowchart/Mindmapping sites. Thinkature, MindMeisterv, Gliffy, Bubbl.us, Mindomo, Flowchart.com, Comapping, and Mind42.

Group project?
GoogleDocs is a fabulous tool for communication and organizing information both on and offline.

Presentation time?
Create a PowerPoint presentation online, complete with embedded content here.

Check yourself.
The line between attribution and plagiarism is often blended for many students. Check your paper on www.plagiarismdetect.com to make sure you didn’t go overboard.

Falling behind?
Get a tutor by searching this site.
